Canadian soccer club leaders from around the country will meet in Toronto to discuss the challenges and issues that face the growth and development of the sport.
Club leaders coast-to-coast will attend the meeting to constructively assess the issues surrounding the game and club soccer. In addition, the attending members will formalize the Canada Club Soccer infrastructure, mission, and establish goals for development of the organization. Crucial issues will be assembled in order to actively advocate the necessary changes for the future of the sport. These issues will be put forth to the various governing bodies to initiate positive changes that will foster the growth and development of club soccer at all levels.
"We are very pleased with the registration numbers," said founding member John Pugh of the Ottawa Fury. "The numbers indicate that there is a need for Canada Club Soccer, and we expect there to be more clubs registering up through next week."
The symposium will be aimed at individuals who are involved with club soccer programs at both the technical and administrative levels. Both issues surrounding governance and the technical aspects of the game will be presented.
"We have established a comprehensive agenda and format to constructively analyze the issues of the sport in Canada," said founding member, Andrew Latham of Kelowna United in British Columbia. "In addition, Matt Weibe, Managing Director of Club Development for USL, will be our guest presenter to discuss the evolution of soccer clubs and the various governance challenges and changes in the U.S." "This isn't going to be a weekend session where people vent their frustrations on how the sport is currently governed," added Latham. "The forum is going to go beyond this and assemble consensus on key positions to make positive governance and technical changes for the development of clubs and the game in Canada."
